Genesys Cloud – Improved color contrast for global navigation and presence indicators
To improve accessibility, Genesys Cloud is updating the RGB color values used for global navigation and presence indicators across the application. Genesys Cloud is also updating the Presence column in Agent Status view to improve screen reader support and keyboard navigation. These changes provide greater visual contrast and improve access to presence information for users who navigate Genesys Cloud with assistive technologies.
What’s changing
Genesys Cloud will introduce the new color values gradually on a page-by-page basis – following the example of the user menu and the top bar – as updates roll out across the application. The updates are expected to be completed by the end of the year.
Users may notice visual changes to navigation elements and presence indicators as individual pages are updated. These changes do not affect the meaning of the existing presence statuses.
In Agent Status view, Genesys Cloud will also update the Presence column. The column will:
- Include Presence as the column heading to support screen readers and keyboard navigation.
- Display both the presence status text and its corresponding colored indicator.
- No longer remain pinned in place.
- Support showing, hiding, and repositioning the column in the same way as other columns.
UI/UX before and after
Benefits
The updated colors will:
- Make navigation elements easier to distinguish.
- Make presence statuses, such as available, busy, and offline, easier to recognize.
- Improve usability for users with visual impairments or color vision deficiencies.
- Help reduce visual strain when using Genesys Cloud for extended periods.
- Provide more consistent, accessible color contrast across the application.
- Improve screen reader access to presence information in Agent Status view.
- Enable keyboard navigation to the Presence column.
Why this matters
Clear visual distinction helps users quickly recognize navigation elements and understand presence status without unnecessary visual effort. Improving color contrast also makes these parts of the interface more accessible to users with visual impairments or color vision deficiencies.
The Agent Status view updates further improve accessibility by making the Presence column identifiable to screen readers and accessible through keyboard navigation. Allowing users to show, hide, and reposition the column also makes its behavior consistent with other columns in the view.
Action required
No action is required. The updated colors and Agent Status view changes will appear automatically as the updates roll out.
